Coney Island Crash: 75-Year-Old Woman Killed After Driver Jumps Curb
CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn — A 75-year-old woman was killed and two others were injured Wednesday when an 86-year-old driver lost control of his SUV and jumped the curb on Neptune Avenue.
The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. near West 22nd Street, where witnesses say the car suddenly reversed onto the sidewalk, striking pedestrians before slamming to a stop. Police believe the driver suffered a medical emergency moments before the crash.
The two surviving victims — women ages 43 and 75 — were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver was also hospitalized and is under evaluation.
Neighbors say the tragedy has shaken the normally quiet Brooklyn block.
“You think you’re safe on the sidewalk,” one resident said. “Then something like this happens.”
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and vehicle data as part of the ongoing probe.
